These two goose eggs were done in 2001 and are my first entries in the IEAG (International Egg Art Guild), Masters program. A lot was learned here. First off, I came to learn to read the directions thoroughly in the packet that IEAG sends you. Somehow I got it in my head that you could enter more than one egg in each category. Not true. By the time I found that out, I had already beaded both eggs. I had to hurry up and make one of them a diorama, but should have chosen the more elaborate egg, "Betty's Iris", to enter in the beaded category, instead of the "Poppy Flapper".
"Betty's Iris" was done in 18mm, 20mm, 22mm, and 24mm vintage beads that are almost impossible to find anymore, real Mother of Pearl flakes that are no longer available, with a hand made fairy on the interior, and the sun was handmade in a graphics program by me and covered in Teeny Weeny beads, plus the hand made clay iris's in the fairy's hand and on top of the egg. The "Poppy Flapper" egg on the other hand, has Hungarian three cut beads and a purchased figure and the interior is glittered. It does have a $25.00 mosaic Mother of Pearl bead on the top. You see the dilema. Both eggs passed in the novice diorama and novice beaded, for which I was very pleased, but I sure know how NOT to do things at another time. Health concerns prevented other entries, but I plan to enter three eggs this year (2003) in Intermediate beaded, Intermediate diorama, and I think, novice paper tole.
"Betty's Iris" is named for my dear friend and mentor, Betty Lou Yomtob, who died October 22, 2001, due to complications from surgery. Although she lost her eyesight in later years, she was a good teacher and I learned so much from her. She was a great sounding board and had the strongest shoulders to lean on. She encouraged me to enter the IEAG Masters program and provided me with the poppy image and the Mother of Pearl to get started. She was also an area rep for IEAG. I miss her terribly.
P.S. The above IEAG link will soon change. The new address will be http://www.eggartguild.org. I maintain the site right now, but the new board is planning new things for IEAG members and that includes a new site.
